Georgia's Historic South Trip Planner
Welcome to Georgia's Historic South!
Georgia's Historic South is known for its southern charm, deep cultural heritage and classic architecture. Extending from south of Atlanta to the coastal region, peach tree blossoms and budding azaleas envelop the land. The South Georgia city of Macon is home to thousands of National Register historic structures; especially rich in African-American history. One of Macon's most visited tourist attractions is the Tubman African-American Museum. While in Macon, also be sure to visit the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. South Georgia's authentic rivertown Columbus is located on the Chattahoochee River. Stroll down the Chattahoochee Riverwalk and enjoy the scenery. When visiting Augusta, known as the second largest inland cotton market in the world, begin at the Historic Cotton Exchange Center and Museum to learn about the city's past. The far southeast of this region is also home to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.
