Founded in 1785 and established in the Athens area in 1801, the University of Georgia (UGA) has grown into one of the top research centers in the United States. Also, UGA is home of the Georgia Bulldogs, a NCAA Division I athletics department. Attractions at UGA include Founders Memorial Garden, Richard B. Russell Library, Sanford Stadium, Stegeman Coliseum and Foley Field.
